Luke F-16s receiving modern makeover

Some F-16s at Luke Air Force Base are undergoing remodeling that will give the old fighter-bombers renewed vigor and double their life spans. The upgrades are bringing the F-16 to the "leading edge of technology," said Col. Tim Strawther, 44, the 56th Operations Group commander.
A group of 82 pilots and maintenance personnel from the Montana Air National Guard is taking part in a two-week air-to-air training exercise out of Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Fla.
On October 5th, Belgian F-16AMs deployed to Kabul - Afghanistan, performed their first life close air support missions near Bagram.
During the "Active Lion" part of the major Belgian defence exercise "Active Response", the Air Component's participation was composed of fighter aircraft, transports and helicopters.

Israel's new F-16 squadron

115 Squadron known as 'Flying Dragon Squadron' is now operational with the F-16A/B as a dedicated aggressor squadron.
Col. Jeffrey S. 'CAG' Smiley, pilot with the 111th Fighter Squadron (part of the ANG 147 FW), passed the 4,000-hour mark in the F-16 during an Operation Iraqi Freedom combat mission.

USAF takes 12 F-16s to Cope India exercise

The United States is deploying its F-16 fighter jets for large scale air exercises with India to be held at the Kalaikunda Air Base outside Kolkata in November this year.
An Indiana Air National Guard Fighter Wing based in Terre Haute is headed overseas for the third time. More than 350 members of the 181st Fighter Wing will be stationed somewhere in the region of Iraq, Afghanistan and the western Pacific for up to four months.
After initially being grounded because of a mid-air collision at an air show in Chicago, the Thunderbirds will be ready to fly again this weekend at the Westfield International Air Show 2005, Massachusetts.
Yesterday, a new commander took charge of the 20th Fighter Wing at Shaw AFB. Col. William Hyatt assumes command from Col. Philip Ruhlman, who is headed to the Pentagon as vice director of the Air Force Studies and Analyses Agency.

147th Fighter Wing heading to Iraq

Several hundred members of the 147th Fighter Wing based at Ellington Field, Houston, texas are about to head to Iraq. It is the first combat deployment for the 147th since the Korean War.
Several hundred members of the Ohio Air National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing, based at Toledo Express Airport, will deploy to the Middle East during the coming weeks to support U.S. military operations there.

The making of a demonstration pilot

Three pairs of F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina will patrol the skies above the Kennedy Space Center Tuesday as part of security precautions for the launch of space shuttle Discovery.
