When Col. Michael Boera touched his F-16 to the tarmac Wednesday afternoon and shut down the engine, he couldn't help but smile. A process that began 15 months ago, when Boera led a group of four Misawa F-16s across the Pacific Ocean to Hill Air Force Base Depot, Utah, had come full circle.

388th Fighter Wing has new commander

An Air Force pilot with 3,100 hours in an F-16 cockpit has taken command of the 388th Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base. A change of command ceremony in which Col. Robert Beletic was installed as the wing's commander was held Wednesday morning.
The first of the Block 25 F-16 Fighting Falcons passed the 6,000-hour milestone earlier this year, and four more are expected to do so later this year, thanks in part to the engineering and depot-level modification efforts of the Ogden ALC.

Shaw AFB grounds F-16s

Shaw Air force Base grounded their F-16 jets for a day. The planes were given a good once over after an F-16 crashed in the Ashley River in Charleston last week.
More than 400 members of the 148th Fighter Wing will be sent to Iraq next month in the largest deployment of a Duluth-based National Guard unit since World War II.

Red Flag wargames pit pilots

The F-16s flown by 64th Aggressor Squadron pilots, replicate the air-combat tactics of potential threats at Red Flag. This realistic combat training exercise involving the air forces of the United States and its allies, is conducted on Nevada's vast bombing and gunnery ranges.
Hancock Field Air National Guard Base will be home to a squadron of Predator Unmanned Aerial drones, a government official said Thursday. This would be the end of the F-16s assigned to the 174FW/138FS.
Col. Brewster 'Boston' Butters has made hundreds of landings at Tulsa's 138th Fighter Wing airstrip, but he had never been greeted like he was Thursday, when he passed the 4,000-hour mark in the F-16.
With more than 300 days of sunshine a year in Clovis, N.M., some Cannon Air Force Base pilots deployed here at Misawa AB (Japan) for four months are experiencing a new phenomenon: Launching sorties in less-than-ideal weather - or not flying at all.

Ohio ANG 180th FW at risk

NOT much has been made of it yet, but there's a threat looming on the horizon for the fighter pilots of the Ohio Air National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing based at Toledo Express Airport.
About 250 airmen from Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., will call Misawa home for the next four months. Most of the incoming members of the 27th Fighter Wing and about 14 of the wing's F-16 fighter jets already are on station, with a few more personnel still to arrive.

388th Fighter Wing troops deployed to Iraq

Pilots from the 34th Fighter Squadron deployed from Hill Air Force Base to Iraq where they'll assist ground troops. After a year of preparation, members of the 388th fighter wing will spend a four month rotation in the Middle East.
With the Kunsan Air Base runway to reopen Wednesday, about 500 Kunsan airmen have begun re-packing their tools and other equipment and making their way back from Osan.

155th Takes ROKAF's Top Gun award

The Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) held an award ceremony on Tuesday for the top finishers at this year's Boramae competition. Major Huh Geun-ho from the 155th Sqn/19th TFW, which flies F-16 block 52s, won the "Top Gun" award this year.
