Quote of the Day
As to gunnery passes, the best was when you dived with speed, made one pass, shot an opponent down quickly, and pulled back up..... The secret was to do the job in one pass; it could be from the side or from behind and I usually tried to open fire at about 150 feet.

F-16C Block 40
Probably an SA-8 exploded near the left external tank area. Fragments from the SAM hit the lower left side of the intake, including right through the intake. The left wing had a 2x3 inch hole and the main wing root had damage underneith. Stabilizers were peppered as well as the exhaust tail feathers. Part of the radome was also sheared off, but that damage was done during the crash landing at Rafha, Saudi Arabia when the nose gear would not extend. Major Ed 'Spot' Schumacher was a pilot who was visiting from the Fighter Weapons School and had deployed to Desert Storm with the 4th TFS. The aircraft returned to Hill AFB in a crate from Dahrain AB.

Callsign of the day

Callsign "Gorbachev"

This guy was taking off the CSD/ADG door, cause he dropped a chip detector and couldn't find it, and he didn't leave any screws in the door to keep it steady. Well one of the screws got stuck up under the jet and he went to get it unstuck....well it popped out and then gravity took over. The door came down and it caught him off guard and it slapped him in the forehead. One of the screws cut into his forehead and caused about an inch gash. Then somebody mentioned that it reminded him of Mikhail Gorbachev. And that's how he got that name.
