F-35A arresting hook

Why some F-35 has arresting hook and some don't?
This one have flat bottom

The first one is an F-35B and does not include a hook.

F-35B BF-4 undergoes environmental testing with AIM-120 during Flight 100 on 22 March 2012. RAF Sqd. Ldr. Jim Schofield is the pilot.
