According to the article above:

So is Boeing in or out on the Canadian competition? Did it submit a response to the Canadian government? The government certainly isn’t saying at this point.

Boeing spokesman Scott Day declined to comment when asked Monday by Defence Watch. But he indicated the firm will be releasing details about its decision soon.

Could this be an indication that Boeing is actually out?

"OTTAWA (Reuters) - Boeing Co, locked in a trade dispute with the Canadian government, has applied to stay in the race to supply Canada with 88 new fighter jets, three well-placed sources said on Thursday. Companies had until Feb. 9 to express an interest in taking part in a competition for planes worth between C$15 billion ($12.1 billion) and C$19 billion. Ottawa will release its specifications next year, at which point firms can bid.

Boeing did let Canada know it was interested, said the sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. The decision does not mean the firm will necessarily put forward its F-18 Super Hornet...." [WUT?]

"Procurement Canada has posted a tender on behalf of the U.S. government inviting Canadian aerospace firms to bid on repair and maintenance contracts for Lockheed Martin F-35 attack warplanes.

The request for information from potential sustainment suppliers for the F-35 fleet worldwide came out in late January, after the Canadian government had launched a new competitive bidding process only last December to determine a fleet to eventually replace Canada’s aging CF-18 fighters.

Canadian aerospace and defence firms have won supply contracts throughout the production phase of the Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter and ground attack planes, as part of an ongoing consortium of nine countries that have been part of the F-35 project from its beginning.

But the January tender notice aimed at the Canadian aerospace industry appears to be the first opportunity to land contracts for repair, maintenance and sustainment work during the operational life of the F-35 fleet. The fleet will eventually number several thousand fighters, with the majority attached to U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine units....

...“The Canadian government, as for all F-35 participant nations, has been asked to distribute this RFI (Request for Information), collect responses, ensure completeness, and forward to the United States Joint Program Office,” the tender notice says...."

This will likely unfold just like I previously said a few times:
- This (Canadian) government is only waiting for the next elections in order to purchase the F-35 (in the next term and not in the current one)...

Could Boeing be intimating the F-15 with that rather cryptic, "won't be the SH" line??

Seems like Canada would warm up to the Eagle. Big, fast, twin engined and with FAST packs and external tanks... lots of range. But any advanced Eagle would go for around $100 million. I thought that's around what the Saudia's bought their F-15SA's for??

Oh wait... 2nd hand Eagles! Dust off 50 or so from the boneyard...

You might not be far off with this idea. Hasn't the USAF floated plans for reducing it's Eagle fleet? What if Boeing were to offer to buy F-15C's from the USAF, refurbish/SLEP them to near-zero time, add FAST conformal fuel tanks, update to the AESA radar the USAF likes in the Eagle along with other avionics upgrades. Maybe even toss in some number of those MADL/IFDL<->Link16 pods. If that could be done for a considerably less amount of Canadian dollars than F-35s... Boing might catch the Canaduhian's attention.

The USAF might like it because they could get $$ for aircraft they would otherwise scrap or park down at Davis Mothan AFB. Money they could use for F-35 procurement, or other things. I'm sure they have a long list of needs / wants.
