The TWIN PROP with nosewheel off the deck is a Tracker S-2E/G for the ASW role of the carrier (with ASW Sea King Helos). Apparently it is flying, straining to get off the strop/cat, at the end. The STOOF (S2F StwoF) was very reliable. Only one lost during a night bolter with pilot it was found to have been pushing the nose down when he needed to keep the nose up so they flew into the sea not far from the ship. All rescued OK. It was the SD “dark night take-off accident” somatogravic illusion effect. The young pilot had not carried out a night bolter before this accident. NIGHT - SHUDDER.

The deck crew are well trained and well supervised. They follow set procedures to get under and out again from aircraft.

Please give Dave my regards, tell him about BIG PDF 4Gb online 25 Apr 2020: https://www.faaaa.asn.au/spazsinbad-a4g/

The Tracker PDF above is now 21 pages - a VS 816 mugshot linebook page 1974 showing 'the Palmer' has been added. Soon a GIF graphic of this page (cleaned up which takes time) will be added here. Lots of 816 material lost in hangar fire. :-(

A little better than Axe and Solomon, maybe, but referring to him as a reporter is insulting to anyone who actually tries to apply themselves at that trade anymore. :bang:

Yes, you're indeed 100% correct there!

Perhaps a LAME humour attempt (see last para) but bloody hell this thing'll get squeezed every which way but loose.
