I would consider replacing the current visible light TV system with SWIR system as they tinker with the system anyway. SWIR would allow almost similar resolution with much superior capability in night-time and ability to see through (light) clouds, haze, smoke and rain. Of course that would increase costs quite a bit.

Never seen a mfg "skip" a generation before. There has to be something substantially different from the previous Gen in order to claim that yours is "Next Gen". This should be interesting coming from an mfg that has no 5th gen exp.

I remember that this was mentioned earlier on the forum when Russia first announced the SU-57. Many posters here doubted their ability to accomplish the project due to the technical difficulties. The US had the benefit of learning from the F-117 and B2 before venturing into the development of the F-22 and F-35. Skipping straight to 6th gen without any of the lessons learned will probably go the same way of the SU-57.

There is no direct link between naming something "X generation" and said something acquiring qualities of name given. What they present tomorrow will likely their take on 5th gen - 20 years late, but at least they know what works and what the market wants. Rafale, after all, turned out to be a fine aircraft. Interesting to see what they come up with - hardly anything revolutionary, but their design might have certain advantages given it's timeframe.

Here are "those same" forgetting (again and again) about Stealth and internal weapons stations (which sets apart and A LOT from the 4th gen)...
And I fully agree with hythelday, this (if it ever happens) will be France's (and Germany as well?) entry on the 5th gen. Obviously they will claim a bunch of PR BS (but since this is not from LM than this are facts and not PR, right? ) in order to try to stay relevant against the aircraft (F-35) which will at the time be in service decades ago and at the same time still likely better/more capable.
