Its the first "reported" night-time carrier sorties...

Remember this?

The above facility which conducts carrier training recently removed the ski-jump so its pretty much confirm (picture on CDF), the 3rd PLAN CV will be a CATOBAR.

PLAN CV17 just came back from its 4th sea trial. The trial started with arrestor hooks installed and J-15/Z-18 onboard.

The trial schedule has mirrored the CV16 ("Liaoning") timeline which took ~12 months to complete. J-15s were sighted in Mar 2012 onboard CV-16 after sea trials started in Aug 2011. CV-17 trials started in mid May 2018.

A bit of a stir caused by the pic below. Previously the J-15s came in running sequence from 1-24 for the 1st CV 16. When the 2nd CV came, most knew more J-15s were needed. The latest batch continued the running sequence to 35, then 62 pop-ed up on CV-17.

All of the new ski-jump J-15s are spotted with only SRAAMs so looks like the current focus is on carrier ops, take offs and landings. Have not reached combat training yet.

Starting to read reports of ground J-15T cat tests. Looks like J-15T is pretty much the fighter equipping the new carrier in the works. Based on 2nd carrier build speed, should start seeing the deck from May onwards with launch in early 2022, however many are claiming the build speed for the new CV is faster...

The J-15T is nothing more than a stop gap until the J-35 enters service. (~ 2030) Which, will allow the PLAN to progress to catapult-assisted take-off barrier arrested-recovery (CATOBAR) operations until then............
