Aha that rusty bucket. Here is newer photo:

Big works, which is probable quite similar to equipping new build one if we look how "long lasting" was soviet stuff. I mean ship used boilers from early 1980s:

New boilers it got are build to last 25years, we can only guess what was service life of soviet boilers, 10years?

But at least the USS Intrepid can float better and has a better "air force" on top (and inside) it
“Active stealth” is what the ignorant nay sayers call EW and pretend like it’s new.

The Russian Navy's sole aircraft carrier, which has been waylaid by years of malfunctions and maintenance issues, will require another year before it can return to service from ongoing repair and modernization work, a military source told Russian state media on Tuesday. Defects in work being done on the ship mean it won't be delivered until 2024, according to state media.

Kuznetsov has become known for the dark black smoke it emits and the tugboats that accompany it in case of breakdown — both of which were on display when it sailed to Syria in 2016 for its only combat deployment.

During that deployment, two jets crashed into the ocean while attempting to land, prompting its air wing to redeploy to a base in Syria.

The decision to have this boat limp along is most unfortunate, and a perfect example of how ego trump logic..

Someone (probably Putin) wants to be able to say Russia has fixed wing carriers. That's not entirely true, as there is but one vessel, and its usually tied up for repairs (or being towed after the engine quit). It provides little to no practical combat capability, and no doubt eats up oodles of rubles. They were never going to have really more than 1-2 and with the sanctions biting for years to come, even that's optimistic. They'd be much better served to revert to their old strategy of large, fast missile boats as primary surface combatants and submarines.

They are either wildly optimistic or delusional after the Syrian deployment. More young Russians are going to die too, as the price paid for fielding competent carrier aviation is paid for in more and more lives. The Chinese will find this out too, fairing better only due to the fact they have a larger supply of both humans and hardware....
