Was there ever a F-16 testbed with the F135 engine applied to it?

No, it wouldn't fit and there is no reason for it.

F135 is much bigger than F110 and won’t fit the engine bay.

From P&W website

F135:
inlet diameter 43"
maximum diameter 46"
length 220"

F100:
inlet diameter 35"
maximum dimeter 46"
length 191"

The Viper would require quite a modification to accept those extra 8" at the inlet and the 29" on the length. The ideal Viper to install the F-35 engine in is the XL, it already has the stretched fuselage, just would need a re-work for the bay.

What precisely would be the point? F-35A would be cheaper and come with significant features that come as an add-on for F-16.
