Both Canada and Poland are critical US Partners.....
Nonetheless, Canada will come around....
Nonetheless, Canada will come around....

And as clear cut a winner as it is, there's still no guarantee they won't pull bonehead move #2, and instead orders 2nd hand F-14's from Iran
I believe that I've mentioned this several times in the Canada thread, but:
- Canada (also) wants the F-35. It's the only aircraft that the RCAF really wants. Most of the Canadian aerospace industry also seems to want the F-35 and so on...
The only reason behind this "F-35 and Canada issue" was due and only due to a "retarded PM" which decided to say that didn't want to buy the F-35 in order to win a few more votes since the F-35 program was under a tight and public scrutiny and criticism at that time (and not only in Canada). Heck, it was a Liberal government (the same political party of the current "retarded PM") which signed Canada into the JSF program in the first place.

Ditto!
And I would even say that Canada is indeed much more of a critical US Partner than Poland. For example, due to the letters started with "NOR" and ended with "AD" and so on...
“Active stealth” is what the ignorant nay sayers call EW and pretend like it’s new.

Canada has the same problem as all the rest of the world; Who is the ennemy?
Why buy fighters if there is no ennemy? Not even close. Not even in the first 50 years or so.
But? They will wake up when Russia goes for the oil under the North pole. (With a stick in the back from the USA pushing them into action)

Because the current fighter aircraft fleet of CF-18s is getting too old and ending its lifetime??
And if there's a need to buy a new fighter aircraft fleet then the country should buy the fighter aircraft that better fits its needs. For Canada this is by far the F-35 and the reasons for this were already "debated to the death" here in this forum...

Taxpayers want to know these days.
The (potential) Canadian F-35s will do exactly the same roles that the current CF-18 fleet did and currently does and more.
If you don't know what the CF-18 fleet currently does then you certainly need to "dig more" about the subject.
And then there's also what madrat mentioned.

You don't wait for a threat and then start looking for a weapon.
Part of the appeal of the F-35 for Canada is that it can do so much and is very flexible. It is also being produced in vast quantities and operated by many countries so they can be ensured of future upgrades and the cost will be much less than for other contenders.
Canada does not want to be a doormat in any conflict between the US and Russia so it is and has been in their best interest to have some teeth and a strong alliance with the US. They also are on or near vast resources that are becoming accessible. Look how China is building islands to lay claim to natural resources just off the coast of other countries.
