F-35 & F-22 will miss 80% MC Rate target
F-35 Mission Capable Rates Up for All Variants, Lord Tells HASC
14 Nov 2019 John A. Tirpak
"Mission capable rates have jumped for all variants of the F-35 over the past year, Pentagon acquisition and sustainment chief Ellen Lord told a panel of the House Armed Services Committee on Nov. 13. The improvement came even as the size of the fleet expanded considerably, she said.
“As the F-35 fleet has grown, aircraft readiness has improved,” Lord said in prepared testimony for the HASC readiness subcommittee. The fleet—now 458 airplanes across the US services and international partners and customers—grew 50 percent larger in 2019 than it was a year ago, and the F-35 enterprise “is on track to produce 150 percent more aircraft than we built two years ago.”
Across the US fleet, mission capable rates—the metric that shows how many aircraft in a fleet are available for action at any given time—“increased from 55 percent in October 2018 to 73 percent in September 2019,” she wrote. Marine Corps F-35B readiness leaped from 44 percent to 68 percent during that period, Air Force F-35A jets improved from 66 percent to 75 percent, and Navy jets, which only became operational this year, are over 75 percent mission capable, Lord asserted.
She and F-35 Joint Program Office officials have in recent months touted an increased availability of parts as the key element in the improved readiness of the fleet,..." [more at ze jump]

Thanks for the link, great article. The rest of the article talks about depots and depot level repairs as well. Who would have thought increasing spare parts availability and enhancing depot support would improve readiness?
I wonder what would happen if you quit buying spare parts and shorted depot funding for a legacy aircraft like, I don't know, maybe the F-18E/F? Do you think readiness would tank? Oh wait, never mind....

Applause! Especially I applaud the A. A is many. (Are there currently over 200 aircraft?)

Last October, then-Defense Secretary Jim Mattis directed the Air Force to increase mission capable rates for the F-22, F-16, and F-35 to at least 80 percent. At the time, the F-35 rate was 54 percent overall, but for 3F aircraft recently off the production line, the rate was better than 80 percent.

Meanwhile, to date the RAAF’s AU-1 and -2 have flown almost 1,100 flight hours in 700 sorties, Over said.
They’re flying at about the utilisation rate that a mature weapon system like F-16s or F-18s are returning at_ So the airplanes have really been performing remarkably well”
Australia has two F-35A unit Lot 6 (Block 3i) range and 16 F-35A Block 3F units around year 2017+ build range.
