US F-35 fighter makes emergency landing at SDF base

"FUKUOKA (Kyodo) -- A U.S. F-35 stealth fighter made an emergency landing at an Air Self-Defense Force base in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Fukuoka on Tuesday, the ASDF base said. According to the Tsuiki base, the U.S. fighter jet landed around 11 a.m. with no injuries or fire reported as occurring. The pilot contacted the base's air traffic controller shortly before touching down to report the aircraft would be making an emergency landing.

The fighter jet was likely heading for U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Yamaguchi, Fukuoka's neighboring prefecture. The ASDF base believes the U.S. fighter encountered trouble with its airframe, but the U.S. military has not given detailed information, including where the aircraft is based."
