Women in and out of Uniform
Flight Suits Designed for Women
06 Jun 2019 Amy McCullough
"The Defense Department is starting to design flight equipment with female aviators in mind. Women pilots in the Air Force and Navy gathered at JB Langley-Eustis, Va., on June 4 for a female fitment event, where officials took their measurements for uniforms, helmets, and masks. The data gathered will be used to design prototypes for female flight equipment, which has historically been based off of male measurements, according to a USAF release.
“When you go to a squadron to go to a fitment event, there’s usually only a couple of women, so to get a full spectrum of what is going to work for women aviators, we needed to bring them all together in one place,” said Lt. Col. Shelly Mendieta, plans and requirements officer.
Brig. Gen. Edward Vaughan, assistant to the director in the Air Force directorate of readiness and training, said the new equipment will improve pilots’ combat effectiveness.
“Women have been flying in the Air Force for a very long time,” Mendieta said. “We have made progress, but this is the first time in my 20-year career that we have had the kind of momentum that we have to get this right. We have the opportunity to get this right and we have to grab that and take it for all it’s worth.”"

"NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER AIRCRAFT DIVISION, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. - U.S. Naval Test Pilot School rotary instructor Barb Gordon was the Navy’s first to receive the Army’s Broken Wing Award during a ceremony June 6 in Patuxent River.
Highly regarded and rarely awarded, the Army gives the Broken Wing to aircrew who have minimized or prevented loss of life and aircraft through outstanding airmanship during inflight emergencies. Gordon’s award marked the first time the Army presented the Broken Wing outside of the service.

Air Force’s first female Viper pilot relieved of duty after two weeks
Capt. Zoe Kotnik was commander of the F-16 Viper Demo Team, a fleet that performs complicated aerial stunts at widely seen events such as the Super Bowl.
Col. Allen Herritage, director of public affairs at Air Combat Command, stated that Col. Derek O’Malley, 20th Fighter Wing commander, relieved Kotnik of command due to his “loss of confidence in her ability to lead and command.”
[...]
Kotnik graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2011 and has accumulated more than 1,000 hours in aircraft during her time in service.
[...]
She will continue to serve in “non-supervisory role” in the Air Force’s 20th Fighter Wing, said Capt. Alannah Staver, a spokesperson for the unit.

Does that meet AF grooming standards? Or safety standards for that matter.
Yes, female hair must hang down when wearing any kind of helmet to allow for proper fit.
