I know we've pretty well beaten this horse to death, but I thought I'd ask this question regarding something I read in the BRAC report.

I understand the concept is to close the units they didn't have a need for and consolodate wings by putting all of a single Blk.# at a specific base.

I also saw that many of the Blk. 40/42 units were retiring their jets. This is what mainly got my attention. What is the future of the Blk. 40/42? What will be the projected "Hub units" (if you will) for these aircraft?

I'd appreciate someone could enlighten the class.

Block 42's to Toledo and Tulsa. You'll notice that some of the block 40's are or about the same age as the block 30/32. Some have been beat up at places like Korea. I think what the are really trying to say is that we'll have some jets in AMARC and if a unit loses one..........we've got the replacement. I've not heard of any guard units getting the 40's and can only point to Korea and maybe Nellis getting the better jets. Sorry TC, know I didn't answer your question...........Just some thoughts.

Actually, you did answer my question perfectly chickenlegs! This Bud's for You!

So, Toledo and Tulsa eh? It seems to me like the Blk. 40/42s will be primarily a Guard jet, and the 30/32s. will be primarily a Reserve jet. Am I right?

I hate this time in the military, when things are being BRACed and everything gets screwed up. I'm glad that I was in between two of the BRAC rounds. It made many pills much easier to swallow!

Des Moines will (if the BRAC goes thru) give block 42's to Toledo and Tulsa. As far as 30/32's.........both Guard and Reserve. Big hit list on the Guard side but will beef up units like ours. Fresno looking to gain more jets than everyone else. 419th at Hill will go to a maintenance squadron augmenting (more like making it happen) the 388th. Lot of good folks there and a shame they are losing their jets. Great Falls another example of an outstanding unit on the BRAC. Won the top Air Force maintenance trophy twice. Virginia losing block 30's and going to work the F-22 with the air force. List goes on and on.........took me awhile to look at all the recommendations.

I saw that many Blk. 30s are on their way to Homestead, provided the BRAC goes through. I'm glad. This would make Homestead one of the AF's better comeback stories. Hard to believe almost 13 years ago that base was on the brink...almost completely destroyed. They cleaned up the base, made the 482nd the host wing, and is now a small Reserve base. I'm thinking that if they get enough jets out of this BRAC, they may be able to add a second squadron. It'll be interesting to see anyway.

It looks like the surviving units will all increase to at least 18 PAA. Usually meaning 20-21 aircraft. As you've probably read, will be retiring a good number of aircraft as well.

Have a great day!

419th is losin their jets huh, bummer. I went to tech school with a few guys headin there. While I was at Hill I thought they were block 40's right up until I left, until the air show they had a jet there with a little sign that said block 30, doh!

The 419th is giving up its block 30's (it never had 40's) to get some block 40's from Cannon.

Oh, so they're only transitioning to a different Blk. #? I had thought the 419th was closing up shop altogether.

I know of many people who won't miss Cannon very much.

Does anyone know where the Singapore AF "Buccaneers" will go when Cannon closes?

The 419th and the 388th are experimenting with a combined wing concept, it only makes sense to be flying the same block of aircraft.
