Anything goes, as long as it is about the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor

With Tyndall converting to an Air Combat Command base and the arrival of a squadron of F-22s to stand up an operational squadron - does anyone know what squadron the Air Force will resurrect? Past history seems to have some weird logic...

Elmendorf... deactivate the 43rd Fighter Squadron (F-15s) and replace it with the reactivated 19th Fighter Squadron... Deactivate the 19th Fighter Squadron and replace it with the 525th Fighter Squadron (F-22s)... reactivate the 19th Fighter Squadron at Hickam as an associate squadron to fly Hawaii ANG F-22s.

Tyndall - three F-15 fighter squadrons at Tyndall.. 1st, 2nd, 95th.... lets activate the 43rd Fighter Squadron to fly the F-22s!

So any guesses?

It would be interesting if ACC resurrects the 71st FS "The Ironmen" down there.

They were suppose to be the 3rd squadron at Langley to be equipped with the F-22. This would be a good opportunity to not only reactivate an accomplished and distinguished squadron, but they can finally get their Raptors.
I'm watching...

From a source with the Demons, The plan as of Aug 2011 (And he confirmed it), the 7th FS will be deactivated and the 95th FS will be the active duty squadron at Tyndall. Hate to see the Demons die off, yet again but nice to see the Bones return.

So, it's Mr. Bones they plan on bringing back? Would be fitting.

Indeed it is. I myself was hoping for the ABS or Ironmen to return, But the Boneheads have quite the history. It'll be nice to see them as an ACC unit as well rather than AETC.

Public Affairs didn't get it quite right. (Nothing unusual there.) Those were actually Raptors 2 through 6 that arrived at Tyndall from Holloman last Monday. Raptor 4072 arrived several weeks ago in December. It was on the Tyndall ramp with a TY tailflash and Bonehead patch.

4080 and 4095 marked 95FS are two of them.

Is there a new Sq Ops building in the works for the new unit? The security requirements of the F-22 mean all of the related structures are huge vaults and I doubt they can crow bar another unit--especially an operational one--into the existing building.

Reserve squadron brings flagship to Tyndall
by Airman 1st Class Sergio A. Gamboa
325th Fighter Wing Public Affairs

2/6/2014 - TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Air Force Reserve Command's 44th Fighter Group and Air Combat Command's 49th Fighter Wing, both from Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., delivered five F-22 Raptors to Tyndall AFB on Feb. 5.

The Raptors are now assigned to Tyndall to be operated by the integrated 301st Fighter Squadron and 95th FS. The 301st FS is a detachment of the 44th FG.

"The goal is for both the squadrons to attain initial operation capability as a team," said Maj. Derek Steneman, 301st FS Assistant Director of Operations and F-22 instructor pilot. "This is just one step in the process to bring the jets here and begin flying in order to execute the Air Combat mission."

The 301st FS's mission is to provide seamless integration with active duty counterparts to deliver combat air power for America.

"With these Raptors arriving, we gain the tools we need to execute the combat mission of the United State Air Force," Steneman said. "We need to get the jets here so the maintainers can have something to work on, prepare pilots for local flying operations and eventually prepare to deploy."

What is significant about this F-22 delivery is that the 301st FS's flagship arrived and is now here, said Steneman.

"It's a point of pride for all 301st FS and 44th FG Airmen to see our flagship here," said Lt. Col. Andrew Lyons 301st FS commander. "We take pride in having it parked next to our active duty counterparts' squadron flagships."

Even though the 301st FS and 95th FS are different squadrons, they come together in support of the Air Combat mission.

"We wear different patches, have our individual identities and are ultimately two different squadrons, but we form a team with integrated personnel and a common mission." Steneman said.

The transfer of the jets is part of the 24 Raptors that are anticipated to be here by April and become combat ready in the summer.

"We look forward to an opportunity to be fully integrated with the 325th Fighter Wing and to focus on teamwork and partnership with our active duty brothers and sisters," Lyons added. "We continue to integrate with the aim to become fully operational in the near future."

Given the current round of defense budget cuts, they are probably not going to resurrect any new squadrons.
