51st FW command change
October 9, 2008 (by
Franklin Fisher) -
The 51st Fighter Wing commander, Col. Jon A. Norman, will move to a new assignment as Air Force Chief of Staff executive officer in Washington, D.C., base officials said Tuesday.
Col. Thomas H. Deale, commander of the 355th Operations Group at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., will succeed Norman on Oct. 15 at a 9 a.m. ceremony at Osan.
Norman, 44, has been commander at Osan since June 2007. He previously was commander of the 8th Operations Group, part of the 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan Air Base in South Korea.
Command of the 51st Fighter Wing is typically a two-year assignment. Norman will depart after a year and four months in the job.
Deale served at Osan from October 2001 to June 2004 in a series of assignments, the last as a lieutenant colonel commanding the 25th Fighter Squadron. The squadron flies the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack plane and is one of two flying squadrons within the 51st Fighter Wing. The other is the 36th Fighter Squadron, which flies the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Norman is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and a command pilot with more than 3,000 flight hours.
