New leadership for the 35 FW

August 4, 2008 (by Stars & Stripes) - Leadership of the 35th Fighter Wing will change hands later this month with current commander Col. Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy headed for a new assignment in Hawaii, base officials announced last week.

O'Shaughnessy will command the 613th Air and Space Operations Center at Hickam Air Force Base.

A change of command is scheduled for Aug. 25, base officials said. The place and time of the event are to be announced.

Col. David Stilwell is slated to replace O'Shaughnessy — for at least the second time.

In January 2007, Stilwell accepted command of the 57th Adversary Tactics Group at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., from O'Shaughnessy, according to the Air Force.

O’Shaughnessy left Nellis to command the 35th Fighter Wing, a post he’s held for just more than 18 months.

The 35th Fighter Wing also is getting a new vice wing commander. Col. Joel Malone retires Monday after more than 26 years in the Air Force. During his career, he spent more than six years at Misawa — the last two-plus years as the vice wing commander. He previously commanded the 13th Fighter Squadron at Misawa.

Malone’s replacement will be Col. Robert Craig. He’s due to arrive later this month, base officials said.

Other major leadership changes this summer at Misawa include:
  • Col. Kyle Matyi replaced Col. Cedric George as the 35th Maintenance Group commander.

  • Col. Guillermo Tellez is the new 35th Medical Group commander, taking over from Col. Mary Armour.
