My first assignment after basic training and tech. school was with the 388th TFW at Hill AFB, Ut where I started on the F-4D. I loved it but I think in 1978 we converted to the F-16A. That was awsome! From Hill I went to Williams AFB, AZ where I crewed T-38s for about 18 months. After Williams I went to Torrejon AB, Spain where I helped with the conversion from the F-4 to the F-16. I spent four years there with the 612th AMU and then got stationed at Luke AFB, Az and crewed F-15As. After six years there I was stationed at Langley AFB, Va where I worked at HQACC in the F-16 office. I retired from there in Oct 1994. Current or Favourite assignmentWhen I was with the 612th we had some great TDYs to Aviano and Incerlik. I really enjoyed working with the other members of the unit. I also loved working in the 4th AMU at Hill AFB. There were a lot of great guys I worked with. |

When 779 was landing at Torrejon AB, Spain for the first time, coming from the factory, the pilot forgot to put the landing gear down somehow and landed on the tanks. My beautiful, brand new F-16 with only 16 flying hours on it as I remember it began its assignment at TJ with a bang. Then, the crash recovery crew picked it up with a crane and dropped it twice. My baby sat on the ground for a couple of months while we waited for a depot crew to come and change a rib in the engine bay that was compressed, not from the landing but from being dropped by the crash recovery crew. I still am hoping to find a picture of that some day. | ||||||
