Col. Smiley takes command of 187th Fighter Wing

January 23, 2006 (by Stefaan Vanhastel) - On Saturday, Col. Jeffrey S. Smiley took over command of the 187th Fighter Wing, Alabama ANG, from from Brig. Gen. Stanley E. Clarke. The 187th FW is based in Montgomery, AL, and flies Block 30 F-16s.

The 187th FW deployed its F-16s and more than 300 personnel to Al Udeid, Qatar, for Operation Iraqi Freedom in September 2004. The wing is scheduled for another deployment in the near future.

Brig. Gen. Clarke moves on to become the deputy director of Air Force Strategic Planning at the Pentagon.
