Bob was a good childhood friend, fellow scout and classmate. I hope his family is well. Bob is missed by his circle of friends.

Sir,
Thank you for the kind words. My father dedicated his life to his family, country, friends and community. Our family continues his legacy and the work God started in his short time here. Again, we appreciate your thought and well wishes and hope the same for you and your family.

So many great times growing up with Bob. Loved the family farm, what a fun place to hang out and also work at. My MOST acomplished friend within our group of buddies. Wish he was here to speak to my son. He is about to follow Bobs footsteps to the Air Force Academy. I see alot of Bobs good qualities in my son. I will make sure to visit the Chapel to see my good friends name and say hi in a prayer !

Richard,
Thank you for those kind words and memories about my family and especially my dad. The farm and memories are still my cornerstone. So great to hear from you and hope to meet your son someday in the AF... I wish him the best of luck!

I never met the major but from reading all the comments, i missed out on meeting a wonderful person. I was the Crew Chief / Mechanic of the F16 81-0758 while it was stationed at TJ. / Torrejon. I am sad to know of this terrible incident in my first Aircraft.I hope the family is at is doing good and Major Ashenfelter is resting in peace with the Lord. I am so sorry

Gary,
Thank you for sharing that info with us, and let me just say, it was not your fault!
You are welcome to contact me at any time, and my family totally appreciates your concern. God Speed!

Was as TJ 69-73. Came across this story about your dad. Moved me. Not that we need more reminders about how short and great life is, but this hit home. God bless you amd your family.
