Mountain protects Taiwanese F-16s

February 17, 2004 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Taiwan now has a hangar inside a mountainside capable of protecting up to 100 F-16 and Mirage fighter jets, and it now also has upgraded early-warning radar systems.
The military balance of power across the Taiwan Strait seems to be tipping in China's favor however. One of the reasons is that Taiwan is still learning to use the F-16 fighters and sophisticated aviation and weapons systems it bought in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Northwest Florida Management, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, has recently been awarded a $6,8 contract to provide for F-16 aircraft flight line maintenance for 14 F-16s.

Location of performance is the 21st Fighter Squadron, Luke Air Force Base. This effort supports foreign military sales to Taiwan. This work will be completed by March 2005.
