Dutch F-16 almost bombs Dutch tourists

June 19, 2003 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Last Wednesday afternoon a Volkel based F-16 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (KLu) mistakenly dropped a 250lbs dummy practice bomb outside the bombrange at Vliehors Island in the Waddensea (in the Northern part of the Netherlands).
The bomb impacted some 50ft from some tourists who were visting a small museum on the island. Since it was a dummy, there was no explosion. The tourist however were pretty shaken.

KLu officials said the reason for the mishap is unknown and a investigation is about to start.
