August 10, 2007 (by
Stefaan Ellebaut) -
The Operational Conversion Unit (OCU), which provides training for all Belgian Air Force F-16 pilots, and which is stationed at Kleine Brogel, arranged an air-squadron on Thursday afternoon.
Eight pilots, with a total of 20,000 air miles, made an F-16 flight. The formation consisted of six F-16 planes, including two two-seaters.
They made a local flight from Kleine Brogel, honoring the departure of the commander of the OCU, Major Peter 'Patja' Stams, and the arrival of his successor Mark Meeuwissen.
Of all eight instructor pilots (IPs), the youngest has gathered 1,504 hours of flying experience and the most experienced has flown 3,064 hours. Major Stams has accrued 2,644 hours during his career. 20,000 hours of flying corresponds with a period of more than two years.
