LMTAS bidding to sell Norway 20 new F-16s

February 13, 1999 (by Lieven Dewitte) - LMTAS is bidding to sell Norway 20 new F-16s, with options for 10 more. This amid emerging concerns by Norwegian officials that the company's pricing isn't fairly set.
The concerns stem from an ongoing contract to upgrade Norway's existing F-16s. Some portions of that contract had significantly higher costs than a similar contract signed at the same time for USAF F-16 upgrades.

Norwegian officials are pressing the company to reveal all pricing information, a step the company says would compromise competitive secrets that even the USAF is not allowed to see. LMTAS is in competition for the new aircraft contract with Eurofighter consortium. Eurofighter is anxious to win the order, which would be the first export order for the aircraft.

Bids for the two competing aircraft are due by June1, with final contract signing by February 2000.
