Shaw's 20th FW deploys to SW Asia for exercises
April 23, 2007 (by
Jason Hyatt) -
More than 100 members of the 20th Fighter Wing from Shaw Air Force base, along with several F-16CJs, are deploying to southwest Asia to participate in exercises.
They'll be participating in exercises "Eastern Falcon", "Falcon Air Meet" and "Eager Shooter." According to a release, the deployments are "in support of foreign relations exercises."
The deploying personnel - mainly consisting of members of the 55th Fighter Squadron and 55th Aircraft Maintenance Unit - are expected to leave the morning of April 24.
Airmen of the 20th Fighter Wing already tested their ability to deploy and redeploy aircraft, personnel and cargo March 22-27 as part of a Phase I Operational Readiness Exercise (ORE). Phase I exercises demonstrate the ability to rapidly deploy cargo, personnel and aircraft to any war-time location.
A Phase II ORE is scheduled for May 8-9. A Phase II is an employment portion of the exercise. A Phase I tests our ability to go to war and a Phase II tests our ability to employ our assets at war, Colonel Hamilton said.
The primary missions of the 20th are the suppression of enemy air defenses and destruction of enemy air defenses.
