Rolled out on March 12, 2015. First F-35 assembled outside the United States at the Final Assembly and Check Out, (FACO) facility in Cameri, Italy. First flight was on September 7, 2015 by test pilot Bill "Gigs" Gigliotti.

On February 2, 2016 this aircraft departed Cameri AB, Italy and made the first transatlantic F-35 flight. Aircraft was to arrive on February 3rd, but was delayed till February 5th due to weather and maintenance issues. Pilot was Major Gianmarco, an Italian pilot, who flew the F-35 was accompanied by two C-130Js, two KC-767 and a Typhoon to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. Purpose of the trip was to start three months of “Electromagnetic Environmental Effects” testing, which evaluates the effects electrostatic events such as high-powered radars, communications systems, and lightning have on the aircraft.
