The aircraft was part of a four-ship formation that was on a training exercise from Ramon AFB and crashed in the area of Mitzpeh Ramon at around 20:00h local time. No distress call was received and the pilot, Maj. Amihai Itkis, and the navigator, Maj. Emmanuel Levi, were found on Thursday afternoon. Both didn't survive the crash.

The aircraft departed the runway at Aviano AB during ground roll after a landing. Safety chains were used to slow the aircraft down before it left the runway. The nose gear colapsed in the soft grass. Flights were halted the rest of the day but resumed by the next day.
