The first F-35C Lightning II carrier variant, the USN's first stealth fighter, arrived at NAS Patuxent River on Saturday, November 6th, 2010 at 2:37 pm. The aircraft, piloted by David 'Doc' Nelson, departed NAS Fort Worth JRB and achieved successful air refuels at a maximum load of 19,800 pounds during the flight. AF-03, the newest Joint Strike Fighter to land at Edwards, arrived from Fort Worth, Texas for test and evaluation on December 11th, 2010. Equipped with avionics and sensors, the new F-35 Lighting II is the first mission-systems aircraft of the fleet. It joins AF-01 and AF-02, which arrived at Edwards in May.
