I hear this "rumor" that Cannon AFB will become somewhat of a superbase. I hear that Luke will be sending a good portion of jets there. I hear all this because Cannon has lots of room to expand and it is in the middle of nowhere. Anyone have any info?

WOW, that's the exact OPPOSITE of what I have heard. I heard that Cannon will likely not survive this round of cuts. I've heard that the active duty wants to get rid of anything block 30 and below, for active/deployed missions. That would leave Cannon down 1 squadron of F-16s. I guess we'll all have to wait until 16May to find out!

I heard that rumor 8 years ago when I was there, they have so much air space, I doubt they will ever close it, expand it? New Mexico would love it as far the economy goes.

I cant see Luke shutting its doors, They are putting alot of money into that base, If they got rid of several AMU's they would still be one of the largest employers in Maricopa county.

Cannon has 3 squadrons. One each of block 30, 40, and 50's. This is all of just what I hear. I know nothing. I just can't imagine Clovis being huge!

Heard the rumour as well....Heard that they were looking at combining Cannon and Hollowman and moving it to Cannon due to the seasonal weathers (no major snow) and a vast amount of airspace for training.....Guess we might get an insight when the Base closure list comes out in May.......We shall all see....

I've heard the same. Luke AFB is not owned by the Air Force, but leased. Rumor has it, since Old Mrs. Litchfield passed away a few years ago, her son would not renew the lease but sell it out commercially. Sometime in the next few years?

I agree that Cannon would be the opportune spot for Luke's 16s. On the other hand, it is very hard to imagine Clovis growing into a metropolotin.

Another dilemma I just thought of. Luke runs Pratts while Cannon runs GEs. I know it has been AF policy not to mix the two on the same base. Maybe an exception would be made? or maybe Cannon's current F-16s distributed into the ranks? Things that make you go hmmm?

Not to mention Cannon has it's "own" bombing range just a few miles down the road in Melrose.

I'm headed to Luke for a bit of work. I'll keep my ears out ! I remember when they opened the Red Lobster in Clovis and folks were all excited they could get an 'adult beverage' with dinner... some odd laws in them tiny towns out west.
