Israel's new F-16 Squadron
July 10, 2008 (by
Jon Somerville) -
Israel unveils it's newest F-16I Squadron with a ceremony held on July 10, 2008 at a yet unknown air base in the southern part of Israel.
This will be the reactivation of an older F-4 unit which operated from 1969 to 2000 with the Phantom II. An appropriate name of "The One" is applied to 1 Squadron, called Tayeset 1 in Israel. Although unveiled it is unlikely the squadron is active.
Located in southern Israel, the squadron will stand guard against threats from Egypt and other countries to the south of Israel.
Lieutenant Colonel "Shaul", who is the new squadrons commander: "We have prepared ourselves for every scenario and all the threats that face Israel, from the closest to the furthest…We are ready. This is why Israel has invested so much time, effort, and money in us."
