Polish F-16D makes emergency landing
September 12, 2007 (by
Kamil Lominski) -
Today a Polish F-16D Block 52M+ that took off from Krzesiny airport in the outskirts of Poznań for a routine training flight made an emergency landing at at Warsaw's Okęcie airport.
The pilot detected smoke in cockpit while practicing touch and go's at that airport and decided to land as soon as possible. The jet landed safely at 14.37h local time.
The incident is being investigated. At this time, it's not 100% clear yet wheter it was a signal light malfunction or if there was actual smoke in the cockpit.
After the landing the plane (probably #03-0079) was immediately hauled to the military part of the airport.
Last year there was what seems to be a similar incident when two U.S. F-16Ds of the 13th Fighter Squadron made an emergency landing at a Japanese airport.
