The United States has approved a proposal to provide Oman with electronic warfare (EW) systems for the sultanate's F-16 fleet. Oman has purchased 12 F-16 C/D block 50 aircraft from Lockheed Martin in 2001.
The Pentagon has also awarded Lockheed Martin a contract for the incorporation of Advanced Integrated Defense Electronic Warfare Systems for the F-16 aircraft for Oman. The award also included the incorporation of ALE-47 for the multi-role fighters.
The $26.9 million award combined U.S.-origin EW systems for Oman and Chile. A Pentagon statement said the contract would be completed by June 2006.
