I started my Crew Chief career in 1987 working on F-4C's then onto F-4E's. In 1991 is when I started working on the F-16C/D Block 25's, our unit then moved onto the Block 30 in 1995. I am a second generation Crew Chief, my father was a Crew Chief/Flight Engineer for 38 years, my son is joining the USAF so the tradition will most likely continue! Current or Favourite assignmentMy family has been in the unit since 1948.Our unit was the last ANG fighter unit to deployed for Operation Northern Watch in 2003. DeploymentsToo many Red Flags and Snowbirds to mention!Deployed to Turkey in 2003 for Operation Northern Watch. |

We called 85-1557 "Twisted Sister" due to a very hard landing "twisting" the airframe. We considered it a "Block 35", after a engine fire at a previous assignment, they repaired it by using a Block 40 aft fuselage section.

My best crew chiefing memories are with this F-16, it was a fantastic jet with the best crew I had the pleasure to crew a jet with. I was supposed to crew it one last time in June 2004 but we lost it prior to that date. We lost 86-0260 to mid-air accident with 85-1555, the accident took away two of our finest aircraft.

I was assigned as crew chief to this jet during Operation Northern Watch in 2003. It was one of four South Dakota ANG F-16C's we flew during our rotation for ONW. We were supposed to be in Turkey only for a month and ended up staying four months! "Speedy" was a excellent aircraft and the South Dakota ANG let us "borrow" one of thier finest F-16's. This F-16 also has the honor of being my last F-16 launch/recovery, it came to our base in March of 2004 for a LITENING pod swap-out so I talked my supervisor into letting me crew it while it was visiting us.
