I entered the AF in 1987 reporting to my first duty assignment with the 17 AMU, Shaw AFB, S.C. and am about to retire in January 2008. I have met many great people along my path to include names like Don Prioleau, Kevin Patton, George Baker, Jimmy Abreu, Frank Richardson, Bob Spaw, MSgt Gary Wolfe, MSgt Larry Locklear, Reggie Roach, Rollin Rathbun, Rich Cleavland, Rich Lawton, Mike Lannon, John Zellar, Erin McCalleck, Paul Guyer, James Serfling, The Mustards, D. Franklin, Dave "Chuck" Yeager, Jim Miles, Jamie Cabral, Mike Powell, James Doolady, Bill Hawkins, Manny DeLosAngeles and many others by just their crew chief nick names:Serf, Scooby, Double D, DLA, Dools, Mac, Milkman, D. Rod, Big Mo, Zip, Brew, Cisco, J.D., Paulie, Steimy, Big Greg Johnson, and on and on. All of these and so many, many more that the list would go on forever, I am truly blessed to have crossed paths with everyone one of them. I love 'em all. Ab. DeploymentsMy first deployment was to the U.A.E. in 1990 with the 17th AMU from Shaw AFB, S.C. I have been involved with many other deployments to the middle-east, but I can honestly say that my most memorable one will always be when I volunteered to go to Kirkuk AB, Iraq from the Spangdahlem AB, Germany, 23rd AMU to fill a T.A. slot. I and another F-16 crew chief, James Serfling, were the only F-16 crew chiefs on base. The others were Don Sturm and Courtney Gibson who were C-130 crew chiefs from Ramstein and an F-15 crew chief, Nate Pritchett, from Eglin. There was a total of 5 crew chiefs for the whole base. As an F-16 crew chief I launched/recovered many, many different types of aircraft, but the most rewarding things we did were to load the wounded to get them out of country to hospitals either in Germany or back in the states and unfortunately launch and recover C-130s to take the remains of fallen soldiers from the 173d Airborne Brigade that were killed in action in Kirkuk, Iraq. |

Jon I remember you as a A1C at Shaw AFB. I was an assistant CC on 1217 under SSGT Darnell from 1988 to 1990 that was about the time you got the privlage of wiping on the jet. I remember some great guys and times while I was there. MSGT. Wolff, Tom Lively, JD clark, Don P. Kevin Patton. Steve Lambert, Smitty, Grand pa, Cook , just to name a few. I am glad and very thankful for your service to this great nation and wish you a very well deserved retirement. It was good to have those old memories sparked.
