The pilot, Lt. Wouter Rombouts, had to make an emergency landing at Solenzara, Corse. The problem occured after coming back from an air-to-air firing mission above the sea when he had a master caution and decided to land immediately. There seemed to be problems with the brakes. The procedure in this case is the landing with the arrestor hook. The pilot had only minor injuries. Wouter Rombouts is the same pilot that crash-landed its F-16 on December 9th, 2003 with its collegue Ronny Vaerten

The aircraft was practising touch and goes at Kleine Brogel AB around 15:10 local. After such a practising manouver the aircraft had just left the runway when the pilot, Lieutenant Jean Francois Van Cranem, called out a mayday and a report that he had been hit by birds (birdstrike). The tower reported three loud bangs and a fire erupting from the engine. The pilot ejected immediately and found himself hanging in a tree te be rescued by the fire department at 15:55 local, only sustaining minor injuries. The cause is still under investigiation, but we can fairly say this crash was caused by a birdstrike.
