F-16 History

The squadron was the third and last within the Polish Air Force to receive the Fighting Falcon. In 2008 the unit started to receive the first airframes . The squadron was flying the Su-22M4 ground attack aircraft. With the arrival of the F-16 the unit kept the same role, being that of an air to ground squadron. Operations with the F-16 only started on a higher level from 2009 onwards with the last airframes coming off the Fort Worth production line. Therefore history is still very limited.

Although the build up of the F-16 was very smooth and the aircraft is by far the most modern in the Polis inventory, the F-16 was never operationally deployed till today. The international name for the F-16 is Fighting Falcon, but Poland is one of those countries who has dedicated a local name to it. It is known as 'Jastrząb'.
