The year was 1981. I was a civilian 30 something looking to learn how to fly. I enrolled at a flying club at Fullerton Airport, CA. My instructor was a young 20 somethg just finishing college. His name was Bill Binger. The staff and myself affectionately called him Colonel Binger.
I believe that I was his last civilian student before becoming part of the United States Air Force.
I feel like the proudest civilian pilot in the Usa, to have such a great pilot and patriot as my instructor.
My bucket list includes a reunion with the General.
OS: I wonder if he still has that boot knife I gave him.
