F-16 #
86370 [Detailed history of
this F-16] Deployed to Balad AB, Iraq my good friend Craig "LOBO" Wolf was taxiing 86-370 (the jet with my name and crew chief, Mike Sawyer's name on it) and a mortar exploded sending shrapnel into the vertical stabilizer, tire and empennage. LOBO jumped in a spare and continued the night mission supporting ground forces with E-CAS. The tremendous maintenance team was able to get a new vertical stabilizer sent to Balad and I flew the aircraft back to Buckley AFB, Denver, CO in September 2004. |

Comment | Having the unique opportunity to be the Squadron Commander of the finest group of warriors in the world was a true honor and the best experience of my professional life. The maintenance team was unparalleled and ensured we deployed 16 x F-16s to Operation Iraqi Freedom in Feb 2003 where we conducted non-stop 24/every day operations until the conflict's end on April 19, 2003. | ||

Other aircraft/assignments | I was taught aerial combat in the F-15 by the pilots of the 122nd Fighter Squadron - the best in the business and it set the tone for a career for which I'm extremely grateful |
