388th Fighter Wing troops deployed to Iraq

Pilots from the 34th Fighter Squadron deployed from Hill Air Force Base to Iraq where they'll assist ground troops. After a year of preparation, members of the 388th fighter wing will spend a four month rotation in the Middle East.

Targeting pods bolster F-16 pilot training

The 149th Fighter Wing received 10 Low Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night, or LANTIRN, targeting pods that will literally put its current class of F-16 fighter pilots right on target with their training. The unit will be the first in the Air Force to graduate pilots from the F-16 basic course with targeting pod training.

Egypt has received approval from the Bush administration to support U.S.-origin advanced navigation air pods for Cairo's F-16 fleet. The U.S. Defense Department has awarded Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control a $9.5 million contract to upgrade equipment for the LANTIRN system.

Today, at 18:31 local time, a Turkish F-16C block 40 crashed during a training flight. The F-16 belonged to the 6th AJÜ (Ana Jet Üs), based at Bandirma AB. Pilot Serhat Yildirim ejected safely but suffered some injuries.

Pentagon considers selling $1.1 billion worth of arms to Oman

The U.S. Defense Department plans to sell Oman $1.1 billion worth of arms, including 12 Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Corp. F-16 fighter jets. It would be the first sale of F-16s to Oman, which is located at the entrance of the Persian Gulf and within striking distance of Afghanistan.
