Engine failure caused Cannon F-16 crash

Investigators have determined engine failure led to an F-16 crash on the Melrose Bombing Range in New Mexico March 21. The aircraft (#87-0330), assigned to the 27th Fighter Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., was destroyed. The pilot experienced minor injuries after ejecting from the aircraft.

Further F-16 offers for Hungary

Belgium has joined the growing list of countries willing to lease fighter aircraft to Hungary, offering 18 F-16s that need to be overhauled. A Belgian delegation is due in Budapest this week to offer the planes, which it would upgrade beforehand.
A reported fifth offer from Israel was denied by the Hungarian Defense Ministry, although the Israeli Defense Ministry?s Middle East Newsline website said the offer had been made and that Hungarian officials had already viewed the aircraft.

Egypt has accepted delivery of new U.S. F-16 warplanes ordered in 1999. The first four of 24 F-16s arrived at Gianaklis Air Base on Sunday. The F-16 order marks the sixth Egyptian program for the advanced U.S. warplane.

Hungary is examining an Israeli offer for the upgrade of F-16 A and B model jets Budapest plans to lease from the United States.
Israeli and Hungarian defense officials said an Israeli consortium has presented an offer to upgrade 24 F-16s. They said the upgrade is based on the F-16 upgraded prototype that the consortium has completed for the Israel Air Force. Amid budget constraints, the air force has delayed plans to upgrade is A and B model fleet.

An American F-16 flying out of Incirlik Air Base in south-central Turkey flew for nearly half an hour over at least 150 miles of Syria last Wednesday without even a protest from Syria. But just how an American fighter jet could fly so long and far over potentially hostile Middle Eastern territory is something of a mystery.

Greek officials said Athens will buy an additional 10 F-16 Block 50 aircraft. The aircraft is an option of a contract Athens signed last year with Lockheed Martin.
