News: F-35C completes first arrested landing aboard Aircraft Carrier [2014-11-03]
The Navy made aviation history November 3rd, as an F-35C Lightning II carrier variant Joint Strike Fighter conducted its first arrested landing aboard an aircraft carrier off the coast of San Diego.
Participated in a two week carrier trial starting November 3rd, 2014 along with CF-03 on board CVN-68 USS Nimitz. Was the first F-35C to launch from an aircraft carrier on November 4th, 2014. Joined by F-35C CF-03 in two weeks of at-sea development testing that included 124 arrested landings; 222 touch-and-goes; two bolters, both intentional for test purposes; and 124 catapult launches on thirty-two flights spanning 38.6 flight hours. Aircraft participated in the second set of carrier trials (known as DT-II) beginning on October 2nd, 2015 onboard the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) for two weeks. The test was moved up from October 5th due to Hurricane Joaquin which was making it's way to the US east cost. Again the aircraft was paired up with F-35C CF-03. From August 14th, 2016 to August 25th, 2016 the aircraft took part in DT-III aboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73) in the Atlantic Ocean.
