US considers Norwegian salmon for JSF Fighters

August 31, 2004 (by lamoey) - Recent trade negotiation between Norway and the US touched upon the possibility that the US would lift toll on Norwegian Salmon as part of the JSF industrial work share if Norway were to continue its development participation and acquire the JSF when it replaces its F-16MLU.
The US introduced a 27% toll on Norwegian Salmon back in 1991. At that time Norwegian salmon had a US marked share of 56%. After the toll was introduced this share dropped to 4%.

US Under Secretary of Trade Grant Aldonas apparently made this suggestion during resent trade negotiation. Norway would like to have the toll lifted as happened last year on salmon from Chile. Chile had 2% US market share in 1991, while they have over 50% today.
