Singapore Plans To Purchase 12 F-16s

October 27, 1997 (by Lieven Dewitte) - The U.S. Department of State has notified Congress that Singapore intends to purchase another 12 new production F-16C/Daircraft, thus bringing their total to 32.
It is unclear whether this is a totally new order, or if the buy-option from a previous lease-contract has been exercised. The Fort Worth plant, which makes eight F-16s a month, could start delivering the planes to Singapore about two years after the expected signing of a commercial contract later this year.

The dozen new planes would be the most up-to-date versions of the F-16, called block 50 models. The estimated value of the new purchase is approximately $350 million, including the aircraft, support equipment, spare parts, training, mission equipment and other associated items. The total includes sales to be accrued by Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, Northrop Grumman and other U.S. suppliers.
