Romanian Air Force receives the first six F-16 aircraft

The handover ceremony of the first F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft from the Portuguese Air Forces to the Romanian Air Forces took place on September 28, at Monte Real Air Base.
In the attendance of the Prime Minister António Costa and Defence Minister José Alberto de Azeredo Lopes, on behalf of Portugal and Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc, on behalf of Romania.
The six aircraft upgraded as MLU M5.2 will be operated from the 86th ”Locotenent aviator Gheorghe Mociorniță”, Air Base in Fetești.
The ceremony at Monte Real will be broadcast live at 18.00 hrs. (Romanian time) on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of National Defence.
The acquisition was made in compliance with the provisions of Law240/2013. The 628 Million Euro contract, signed by the Government of Romania (represented by the National Company Romtehnica S.A.) and the Government of Portugal, came into force on September 30, 2013. The next three aircraft will be delivered at the end of this year, with the last ones to arrive at the end of 2017.
