Israeli F-16s strike south of Beirut

October 19, 1997 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Israeli F-16s on Monday rocketed suspected Palestinian guerrilla targets south of Beirut. No casualties were reported in the attack -- the 66th air assault on Lebanon this year.
"A number of U.S. -made F16 planes raided humanitarian and social centers of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command. . . causing only material damage and fires but no losses in lives", a statement by the group said.

In Jerusalem the Israeli army confirmed Monday's attack: "Air force warplanes this afternoon attacked terrorist targets in the Na'ameh area south of Beirut. The pilots reported good hits on their targets and returned safely to base", the army said in a communiqué.

On Sunday, Israeli warplanes hit suspected Hizbollah targets in south Lebanon shortly before a roadside bomb killed two people in Jezzine, an area controlled by the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army (SLA).
