Turk F-16s involved in war-games in northern Cyprus

November 4, 1997 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Turkish special forces on Wednesday destroyed dummy anti-aircraft missile launchers in northern Cyprus in a warning to Greek Cypriots over armament plans.
The Greek Cypriot government, recognized internationally as the only legitimate administration on Cyprus, says it will buy S-300 ground-to-air missiles from Russia to boost defenses. Those missiles would reduce Turkish air superiority over the Mediterranean island.

Turkish F-16 jets staged bombing runs on other mock targets near the town of Morphou, known as Mevlevi to its Turkish Cypriot residents.
