Colorado ANG F-16s take over from Wisconsin ANG on Southern Watch

January 18, 1998 (by Lieven Dewitte) - On January 11th, F-16C/Ds from the 140th Wing, Colorado ANG, began arriving at Incirlik AB to take over Southern Watch Duty from the Wisconsin Air National Guard. The 115th FW 'Badgers' from the Wisconsin ANG arrived in Southwest Asia in mid-December with four of its own F-16C/D aircraft, and two of the 140thWing's F-16C/D Fighting Falcons.
The two wings are sharing aircraft and support equipment as part of a deployment schedule that rotates five F-16Guard units for successive 30-day deployments here to support Operation Southern Watch. The 115th Fighter Wing, based at Truax Field in Madison, Wis., is the first of the five in the rotation, and it is being succeeded by the 140th W from Buckley Air National Guard Base in Aurora, Colo.

While on deployment, the guard units combine with active duty units and are aligned under the 4406thOperations Group (Provisional).
