Pakistani F-16s invited to Red Flag
October 13, 2008 (by
Asif Shamim) -
According to The Times of India, Pakistani F-16s have been invited to participate in the world famous Red Flag exercise held at Nellis AFB.
"The US has apparently asked Pakistan whether it will be willing to participate in the Red Flag exercise in 2009. Pakistan's response is not yet known," said a senior official.
Typically the first two of annual Flag exercises are US units only, while the others include coalition forces. The exercises last two weeks. Often two exercises are combined back-to-back, for a four week period.
India see this invite as a "balancing act" after recent return of Sukhoi-30MKI fighters which took part at Red Flag 08-4.
India is more concerned with the military aid support the US is giving Pakistan under the context of the 'War against Terrorism'.
