F-16 Aircraft Database

This aircraft was assigned to the 776th TAS, 374th TAW, Clark AB, Trying to make Hawaii in one hop,the crew overloaded with fuel. On take off, they suffered over speed on #3 engine, The crew lost situational awareness and allowed the a/c to sink and strike the lip of the cliff at the end of the runway. Plane fell over cliff and burned in the jungle below.

Except for the FE, the crew was relatively inexperienced and had not flown together before this mission. The aircraft commander was a LtCol who had married a general's daughter. He received an age and vision waiver to enter pilot training at an advanced age with poor vision.

I was the Maintenance Crew Chief during my assignment at CCK AB Taichung Taiwan 374th Organization Maintenance Squadron, 374th TAW. 1972 -1973 usually Temporary Duty with the aircraft at Tan Son Nhut AB Vietnam during that time frame. San to seen such awful demise.
